Advent {Dec 24} – Preparing Your Heart for Christmas

Monday December 24

1 Thessalonians 4:11

11 and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you,

Daily Challenge

Small Child:  Find a picture of yourself in a photo album doing your favorite Christmas traditions.

Student:  Pick up a piece of litter today and throw it in the trash.  Even though we aren’t in Heaven, we can keep our home (earth) beautiful.

Teen/Adult:  Think of all the preparation for Christmas:  shopping, decorating, baking, etc.   It’s so easy to get caught up in all the activities that we forget that the REASON for all of this fuss is that we’re celebrating the birth of our Savior.  Keep the reason for the season in mind today as you bustle through last-minute preparations.

December Delights {Day 24}

Dec 24 – What’s the stocking tradition for your family?  Do you hang stockings?  Where are the stockings from?  Are the hangers significant?  Did anyone ever get coal?  What comes in the stockings?  Can they open them upon awakening?

Please note:  Many of these ideas are from http://aliedwards.com December Daily journaling prompts (for creating a Dec Scrapbooking Journal) and http://www.twopeasinabucket.com/ message boards.  Some ideas are left as is, some are my own ideas for focusing on the details of the season.

Luke 2:7

and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

Daily Challenge

Small Child:  Ask your mom about your own birth story.

Student:  Ask your mom about your own birth story.  Learn about when and where you were born and how excited everyone was when they heard the news.

Teen:  What are some of the gifts that God has given us?  Are we as excited about God’s gifts for us as we are about earthly/material things?

Adult:  What was the biggest thing you were excited about today?  God loves for us to be joyful with the world He’s created for us.  Just remember that even on the worst day, we can still find something to be happy and excited about…that God is with us and will come again for us.

Advent {Dec 22} – Preparing Your Heart for Christmas

Saturday December 22

Mark 1:35

35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed

Question:  Have you asked Jesus to forgive you for your sin?

Daily Challenge

Small Child:  The next time that someone hurt you, forgive them by saying “I forgive you.”(even if they don’t say “Sorry” )

Student:  Write down a sin that you made.  Ask Jesus to forgive you and then rip it up and throw it away.

Teen:  Write down a sin that you made.  Ask Jesus to forgive you and then rip it up and throw it away.

Adult:  Write down a sin that you made.  Ask Jesus to forgive you and then rip it up and throw it away.  Then – make sure you let it go AND the burden with it.  God has forgiven you.  Make sure you accept the forgiveness and move on with a renewed heart.
